Puppy vaccinations & risks vs. attending class early

You may be considering or have been advised to wait until your Pup has had all its shots - DON'T!

You may be considering waiting until your new puppy finishes all the initial shots before attending a puppy class.

We highly suggest getting your puppy in a class SOONER, rather than later.  There’s  a ton of information readily available online from trusted sources siting scientific studies as to why and how  waiting can be detrimental to your puppy's development.

We suggest starting your puppy in kindergarten as early as possible!    For Puppy class, most pups will not have had all of their vaccines.  This is to be expected and it is just fine as  long as your puppy has been vet-checked before starting class and is looking, acting, eating and eliminating well, you are clear and encouraged to attend class!

The benefits far outweighs any risk of catching something.

Animal Behavior) position statement about puppy socialization

If you wait, it will be too late!

A dog's window of socialization closes somewhere between 16 to 20 weeks of age.  Some may suggest to wait until your pup's immunization series are completed before enrolling in a class.  A Puppy's vaccination series is not typically finished until after 16 weeks of age.  THIS IS AFTER THEIR SOCIALIZATION WINDOW HAS CLOSED!

What is meant by "Window of Scoialization"?

If you want your puppy to develop into a stable well-rounded adult dog , he or she MUST be exposed to as many different kinds of scenarios, substrates, people, dogs, things and experiences as possible in  structured, positively monitored settings.
